The 2025 Color of the Year Selections Showcase Nature’s Influence and the Comfort of Color

This year brings a soothing, softer side to color. You’ll see the subtle hues of nature appearing in Pantone and Benjamin Moore’s selections. Even the brighter colors like Behr’s ruby red emphasize warmth and the rich color of autumn’s turning leaves. Here’s some of the highlights of the season.

Pantone Celebrates Mocha Mousse

Ever since 1999 when Pantone introduced their Color of the Year educational program to highlight the connection between color, culture and community, the annual announcement has influenced trends and created a conversation about the importance of well, color.

Their first ever Color of the Year hue was Cerulean Blue, and in 2025 the company is endorsing Mocha Mousse — a color that Pantone describes on their website as “a warming, brown hue imbued with richness. It nurtures us with its suggestion of the delectable qualities of chocolate and coffee, answering our desire for comfort.”

This versatile color works with a variety of fabrics, textures and shapes — and Pantone has partnered with companies such as Spoonflower and Joybird to bring Mocha Mousse into home décor designs. The Color of the Year reflects a trend to “align ourselves more closely with the natural world,” according to a Pantone press release.

Benjamin Moore Embraces Cinnamon Slate

This distinctive combination of plum and brown seeks to soothe your soul as it decorates your environment. “Cinnamon Slate is an inviting hue that offers enduring style and modern sensibility,” said Andrea Magno, director, color marketing and design at Benjamin Moore. “Its depth and richness bring an air of approachability and sense of comfort throughout the home.”

Guided by the ambience Cinnamon Slate exudes, Benjamin Moore has curated nine other colors to create their Color Trends 2025 palette that includes Sea Salt, Leather Saddle Brown, Chowning’s Tan, Tissue Pink and Stained Glass.
